Annex: Health Disclosure and Risk Advisory for Western Sichuan & Tibet Plateau Itineraries
This Health Disclosure and Risk Advisory (the "Annex") forms an integral part of these Terms and Conditions and carries the same legal force. By booking any travel route covering Western Sichuan, Tibet, or other destinations at altitudes above 3,000 meters, you acknowledge that you have fully read, understood, and voluntarily agreed to all provisions of this Annex.
1. Description of the Plateau Travel Environment
The Western Sichuan and Tibet plateau routes you have booked traverse extensive high-altitude areas, with most sections above 3,000 meters above sea level, and certain mountain passes and scenic sites exceeding 4,500 meters. These regions present the following inherent characteristics:
Atmospheric oxygen levels are only 60%-80% of those at sea level, with reduced air pressure that commonly triggers physiological altitude adjustment responses in the human body.
Extreme diurnal temperature variations (typically 15-20°C), intense ultraviolet radiation, and rapidly changing weather conditions, with sunshine, rain, snow and hail possible within a single day.
Many routes consist of winding mountain roads and unpaved sections, prone to landslides, falling rocks, mudslides and temporary traffic controls due to geological and weather conditions.
Infrastructure for accommodation, catering, medical care and telecommunications in remote areas is limited, and generally does not meet the standards of urban areas at lower elevations.
2. Health Contraindications and Unsuitable Travelers
High-altitude travel carries inherent health risks. For your personal safety, the following groups are strictly prohibited from participating in plateau travel routes:
Persons with severe cardiovascular and cerebrovascular conditions: including uncontrolled severe hypertension, coronary heart disease, history of myocardial infarction, severe arrhythmia, cardiac insufficiency, cerebral arteriosclerosis and history of stroke.
- Persons with chronic respiratory diseases: including bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), interstitial lung disease and severe pulmonary insufficiency.
- Persons with serious chronic conditions such as severe anemia, diabetic complications, liver or kidney failure, and advanced malignant tumors.
- Pregnant women, particularly those in the first and third trimesters.
Persons currently suffering from heavy colds, upper respiratory tract infections or fever - respiratory inflammation significantly increases the risk of high altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE) and high altitude cerebral edema (HACE).
Persons with a prior history of HAPE, HACE, or severe acute mountain sickness (AMS) who have not fully recovered.
Persons with mental disorders, epilepsy or impaired consciousness.
The following groups should travel with caution and must obtain medical evaluation and clearance from a licensed physician before departure:
- Persons with mild hypertension, diabetes or other chronic conditions that are not stably controlled.
- Travelers aged 65 and above, and children under 10 years old.
- Persons with a sedentary lifestyle, poor physical fitness, or diagnosed sleep apnea syndrome (severe snoring).
Important Notice: This Annex does not constitute medical advice. If you have any doubts about your physical condition, you must consult a qualified medical professional before travel to properly assess your suitability for high-altitude destinations.
3. Pre-Trip Health Preparation and Precautions
- Pre-trip medical assessment: It is recommended that you complete a basic health check 1-2 weeks prior to departure, focusing on blood pressure and cardiopulmonary function, to confirm your fitness for plateau travel.
- Gradual altitude acclimatization: Prioritize itineraries with progressive elevation gain. Avoid ascending more than 1,000 meters within a single day. On your first day at high altitude, rest and take minimal activity; running, strenuous exercise and long hikes are strictly prohibited.
- Lifestyle adjustment: Avoid staying up late, overexertion and excessive alcohol consumption for one week before departure. After arriving on the plateau, abstain from alcohol and limit smoking to avoid vasodilation and increased oxygen consumption.
- Cold protection and sun safety: Bring layered, windproof and thermal clothing to prevent colds and exposure. Prepare high-SPF sunscreen, UV-protective sunglasses and head coverings to avoid prolonged exposure to strong ultraviolet radiation.
- Diet and rest guidelines: Maintain a light, easily digestible diet on the plateau; avoid overeating and high-fat meals. Ensure adequate sleep. In the first few days after arrival, avoid or minimize hot showers to reduce the risk of hypoxic fainting or colds.
- Medication policy: You may carry personal medications and altitude-related supplements under your doctor's guidance. Neither our platform nor our on-site staff provide medication advice, recommend specific drugs, or assume any liability for medication use.
4. Altitude Sickness Information and Emergency Response
Mild acute mountain sickness (AMS) is a normal physiological response to high altitude. Most travelers experience symptoms including headache, dizziness, shortness of breath, fatigue, insomnia and reduced appetite, which typically resolve spontaneously within 1-3 days with proper acclimatization.
If you experience persistent severe headache, repeated projectile vomiting, breathing difficulty, pink frothy sputum, confusion, unsteady gait or severe cyanosis of the lips, these may be warning signs of severe altitude illness (HAPE or HACE). You must immediately notify your guide or tour leader and descend to a lower elevation or seek emergency medical care without delay. Continuing to ascend or push through symptoms is strictly prohibited.
All personal injury and property losses resulting from concealment of medical history, failure to follow safety instructions, or unauthorized participation in high-risk activities shall be borne solely by the traveler.
Basic first-aid supplies provided on the trip are for temporary emergency use only and do not replace professional medical treatment. Our staff will assist in contacting local medical facilities for evacuation and treatment; all related medical and evacuation costs shall be borne by the traveler.
5. Special Risks Specific to Western Sichuan & Tibet Routes
You acknowledge and voluntarily assume the following region-specific risks associated with these plateau routes:
- Road and traffic risks: Many sections are cliffside winding mountain roads. Landslides, falling rocks and mudslides are common in the rainy season, and ice and snow accumulation occur in winter, which may cause traffic controls, itinerary delays or route adjustments. The service provider reserves the right to adjust the order of the itinerary or substitute equivalent alternative attractions when necessary to ensure safety.
- Extreme weather risks: Plateau weather is highly unpredictable. Sudden heavy rain, blizzards, hail and strong winds may occur, causing itinerary interruptions and delays. Additional accommodation, catering, transportation and rebooking costs arising from such events shall be borne by the traveler.
- Service facility limitations: Accommodation and catering standards in remote counties and scenic areas may be basic. Intermittent water/electricity supply and weak or absent mobile network signals are common local conditions and shall not be deemed a breach of service.
- Policy and scenic spot changes: Scenic areas and nature reserves along the route may temporarily adjust opening hours or close due to ecological protection regulations, government orders, religious events or seasonal closures. The service provider will endeavor to arrange alternative arrangements but shall not be liable for additional losses resulting from such changes.
- Cultural and religious customs: The routes pass through ethnic minority communities and religious sites. You must respect local religious beliefs, folk customs and site regulations. Any disputes or consequences arising from improper words or actions shall be the sole responsibility of the traveler.
6. Traveler Acknowledgment and Liability Confirmation
You confirm that you are in good health, have no contraindicated conditions listed in this Annex, and have not concealed any medical history, physical discomfort or pregnancy status from the platform and service provider.
You agree to follow all team arrangements and safety instructions from your guide or tour leader during the trip. You will not leave the group without permission, enter undeveloped areas alone, or engage in high-risk outdoor activities. All personal and property risks occurring during unauthorized separation from the group shall be borne solely by you.
You fully understand the inherent health risks and uncontrollable factors of plateau travel, and voluntarily assume all related risks and losses arising from personal health conditions, force majeure or third-party causes during the trip.
You have informed your next of kin and emergency contact of all risks associated with this plateau trip and obtained their consent.
Matters not specified in this Annex shall be governed by the relevant provisions of the main Terms and Conditions.
